Settings

Settings in the web wallet is where you change how zk.money behaves on this browser, recover funds that are stuck at a deposit address, and reset the wallet's local data. This page covers the three settings people ask about most. The rest of the screen is self-explanatory: hiding your balance, reporting a bug, sending feedback, and the anonymous usage-data toggle.

Requests from people not in your contacts

Anyone who knows your tag can ask you for funds. Settings has a toggle, Allow requests from people not in your contacts, that decides what happens to those requests. It is on by default.

With the toggle on, requests from people who are not in your contacts go to a separate inbox, Requests from non-contacts, which you reach from the toggle itself or from Contacts. They never show in Activity or in your notifications, so a stranger cannot fill your feed. From the inbox you can pay a request or decline it, and there is a Decline all for the whole list. Paying a request adds the person to your contacts, so their next request reaches you like any contact's.

With the toggle off, the inbox says requests from people outside your contacts are turned off, and nothing from them reaches you. Requests from your contacts are not affected either way.

A request only ever asks. Nothing moves until you pay it, and declining is free.

Recover a deposit

Recover a Deposit in Settings sends a token that is stuck at one of your deposit addresses out to an Ethereum address you control. Use it when the normal exits in your activity list do not apply: for example, when someone sent a token zk.money does not accept to one of your deposit addresses, or sent ETH there.

  1. Open Recover a Deposit and enter the deposit address, and the address of the token that is stuck there. zk.money checks that the address is one of this wallet's deposit addresses and that it holds that token.
  2. Enter the Ethereum address that should receive the funds, and connect the Ethereum wallet that will pay the gas. On zk.money Desktop, the app opens a page in your regular browser for this step; see How to run the desktop app.
  3. Confirm the transaction in your Ethereum wallet. The recovery moves every token that has a balance at that address in one transaction, plus any ETH, not only the one you named. The activity list shows what was recovered and where it went.

What to watch for:

  • The recovery is signed by the wallet that made the deposit address. Sign in with the same passkey, on a device where the wallet has finished syncing, before you try. If zk.money is still looking up the deposit's details, wait and try again.
  • Your Ethereum wallet must be on Ethereum mainnet. A deposit address on another network cannot be recovered from here.
  • You pay the gas. The recovery is an ordinary Ethereum transaction from your wallet.
  • Some deposit addresses cannot recover ETH. If zk.money says so, contact support through Report a bug in Settings.

For a deposit that is simply late, or one that was refused because it was over the cap or below the fee, use the exits in your activity list instead; Deposit describes them.

Clear local data

Clear local data in Settings resets the wallet on this browser. It signs every account out of zk.money on this browser and deletes the wallet's local data: contacts, activity, and anything still pending, like a tag registration or a deposit that has not settled. Your passkey and everything on chain stay as they are, so signing in again with your passkey brings back your accounts, your balance and your payment history from the network.

Use it when:

  • zk.money will not start on this browser and says its local database is damaged. The start screen then sends you to the same reset page.
  • You are handing the browser to someone else and want nothing of yours left in it.
  • Support asks you to.

Before you clear, close any other zk.money tabs or windows. The reset cannot remove data that another tab is using, and tells you what it could not clear. Opening the reset page alone deletes nothing: it asks first, and Clear data is the only button that does anything.

What may not come back:

  • Contacts are kept on this browser. Note the tags you pay often before you clear.
  • A tag registration or deposit that has not settled may lose its local record. The funds are on the network and zk.money finds settled deposits again when you sign in, but a registration still in flight may have to be started over.
  • Settings on this browser, including the requests toggle above and any custom endpoints, return to their defaults.

On zk.money Desktop, deleting the app's data folder has the same effect.
